My little man is four-years old today. Perhaps I will post something later about the festivities, but this post is devoted entirely to an incident that occurred today that I felt needed an immediate posting lest I forget. Ezra was feeling so jolly today that while his friends were over, he walked straight up to his best friend's little sister "Moo", cradled her cheeks in his hands and planted a confident kiss on her mouth! I was sort of shocked and at a loss for words since I've never seen Ezra do anything like that to a girl before. I was ready to disregard it as innocent play, but apparently this particular kiss had a motive behind it because this is what he had to say about it later...
Ezra: Guess what mom?
Me: What?
Ezra: When Moo get's big, I'm going to marry her.
Me: Really.
Ezra: Yep, when she's bigger like you. We'll get married.
Uh-huh. Well, she's only two, so I guess he's got a whole lot of waiting to do. And he's probably not going to win any brownie points by kissing her in front of her mother, either.
So, he's four years old today, and already taking an interest in girls... Oh my.

FHE: A Lesson in Loving Each Other
Due to an increased amount of sibling rivalry, our FHE lesson tonight focused on loving each other. So, we exercised some love by saying what we like about each other. Dad started. Then Eliza. Here's what she had to say about Ezra...
Eliza: "Something I like about Ezra is that sometimes he doesn't lock my door. *pause* And then there are some bad things..."
Me: "No, Eliza, we are only saying good things tonight."
Eliza: "Okay, well, I do like it when he makes me laugh."
On to Ezra's turn...
Ezra: "I like about Eliza... [thinking] I like it when she laughs at me. [Grin] And, I like to make her mad."
Sigh.

Soccer for 3 year olds... really?
So, in an effort to get Ezra involved in something (while his sister gets to go to school, dance, and violin), I signed him up for soccer. He was excited. I was excited.
But, keep in mind here that I never played any real team sports growing up. None. (Unless you count cross country my senior year because I wanted someone to help me learn how to run long distance. But I only competed in one race and didn't pose for the team picture, so I don't count it.) Anyway, did you know that there are, like, 8 games in a soccer season? And that they are held EVERY SATURDAY rain or shine? I had no idea what I was getting into. And apparently neither did Ezra.
Ezra is a pretty big tease which made me think he would be aggressive on the field, but this is what he looked like pretty much half the time:
Move buddy! Go run after the ball! And, there it goes down the field and into the other team's goal. Sigh. By the last game he was actually running back and forth and he'll tell you he got a goal (he was running next to a girl from the other team as she dribbled the ball down the field and into the goal--the ball bounced off his foot into the goal.) But, he never got aggressive enough to actually try and get the ball from anyone, or dribble it for any length of time down the field. I don't get it. All the other players on his team were the same way, too. None of the boys had played before and only a couple were even interested. They would cry and beg to sit on the sidelines instead of play. Really??
Ezra was generally a good sport about it all, but in the end I decided that 3 years old is way too young for team sports. He didn't get the rules and didn't like to play.
He did make friends with the other boys though. Bless his heart.

One of those days.
The floor is dirty and there are crumbs all over my feet. I wish I felt I could clean it. But I can't. I can't bring myself to even get dressed today. My robe is my friend.
